A Monthly Devotional on ABC’s Core Values

Transformational Living

We are dedicated to living out our faith in a manner that reflects the holiness and grace of God, continually seeking personal and communal growth through the power of prayer, the study of God’s Word, and the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 3:18, Colossians 1:9-12)

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way..."  - Colossians 1:9–12

Paul’s prayer for the believers in Colossae is not for comfort, success, or even protection—it is for transformation. He longs for them to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, shaped by the Spirit’s wisdom, so that their lives would reflect the very character of Christ.  This is also the prayer we at ABCU Liberia have for our students.  We would love to see them safe and successful and yet, more than that, it is our greatest desire to see them transformed through a relationship with Jesus.

Transformational living begins in the inner life. It is not about behavior modification or religious performance, but about a Spirit-led renewal of the mind and heart. When we are filled with God’s will, our priorities shift. We begin to “bear fruit in every good work” because our roots are deep in Him.

This is the rhythm of a transformed life. It is not static; it is dynamic, ever-deepening, and ever-expanding. Transformation touches our thinking, our actions, our endurance in trials, and our gratitude in all circumstances.

In a world that often measures worth by achievement or appearance, Paul reminds us that true worth is found in walking in alignment with Christ. Transformation is not instant. It is cultivated daily as we yield to the Spirit, immerse ourselves in God’s Word, and step out in obedience.  The hope and objective at ABCU is to see our graduates transformed from the inside out.  It is Christ in us and through us that brings hope to a dying world.  We desire to see our graduates bring Christ to their area of discipline through the Spirit and a transformed life.

Reflection

Where is God inviting you to deeper transformation today? Is it in your thought life, your relationships, your endurance in hardship, or your gratitude?
